Overview
Explore the ecological canals of Xochimilco aboard a private trajinera inside the Laguna del Toro Ecological Reserve.
The Toro Route offers a peaceful and authentic experience away from the crowded tourist areas, traveling through natural canals, ahuehuete tree corridors, and historic lake routes that are part of the chinampa system of Xochimilco.
Unlike traditional trajinera rides focused on commercial and party areas, this experience is designed for visitors who want to enjoy the landscape, nature, and navigation in a more relaxed and contemplative way.
The private trajinera used for this experience does not feature the colorful traditional decorations commonly found in tourist areas, as it is primarily intended for navigation and exploration within the reserve. Its design is simple, comfortable, and functional, with capacity for up to 15 people.
The experience lasts approximately 3 hours and follows the Toro Route, a route that navigates through a large part of the Laguna del Toro Ecological Reserve, allowing visitors to explore different canals, natural corridors, and representative landscapes of the lake ecosystem of Xochimilco. During the tour, the route also crosses an area connecting the neighborhoods of Ampliación San Marcos, San Juan, and Tlacoapa, an area we refer to as the rural zone, where there is a stronger local presence and it is possible to observe more canoes used daily by residents to move between neighborhoods.
The experience operates at different schedules, allowing visitors to discover different atmospheres within the reserve:
• 5:30 am — Sunrise
Navigation through morning mist, the first rays of sunlight, and the natural awakening of the canals.
• 9:30 am — Morning
A peaceful route with soft daylight ideal for enjoying the scenery.
• 1:30 pm — Daytime
Experience the reserve with brighter natural light and open views of the lake corridors.
• 5:30 pm — Sunset
Navigation during sunset with warm tones and reflections across the water.
• 9:30 pm — Night
A nighttime navigation experience within the canals of Xochimilco in a quiet and completely different environment.
Each schedule offers a different perspective of the landscape, vegetation, and natural atmosphere of the Laguna del Toro Ecological Reserve.
